Marugame castle - 39
A figure of a samurai who overlooks "枡形 = Masu-gata" and "大手二の門 = Oo-te-ni-no-mon" and monitors suspicious person not to enter from the castle gate.
As I mentioned earlier, there was a wall with a roof above this "石垣 = Ishi gaki" of "枡形 = Masu-gata".
The enemy soldiers who break into the castle by breaking the "大手二の門 = Oo-te-ni-no-mon", they will be attacked by bullets and arrows from the two sides of the "石垣 = Ishi gaki" and "大手一の門 = Oo-te-ichi-no-mon" on "枡形 = Masu-gata".
I think that the enemy soldiers who were stopped moving turned out to be good targets.

Marugame castle - 38
A samurai who is lying down towards "大手一の門 = Oo-te-ichi-no-mon"
"天守 = Ten syu" somewhat in the upper left of the photo, and the slope visible on the left is "見返り坂 = Mikaeri zaka".
The inside of '大手一の門 = Oo-te-ichi-no-mon' is widened like this.
It is a place for soldiers to line up for sorties, but it seems that "枡形 = Masu-gata" was used in other castles.
In Japan, it will be the season when "Chrysanthemum flower" blooms a little more.

Marugame castle - 36
A samurai's appearance looking back at "大手二の門 = Oo-te-ni-no-mon" in "枡形 = Masu-gata".
It is the "石垣 = Ishi gaki" of "枡形 = Masu-gata" in a direction diagonally to the leading "大手一の門 = Oo-te-ichi-no-mon" and "大手二の門 = Oo-te-ni-no-mon".
The construction method of this "石垣 = Ishi gaki" is "切り込みハギ = Kirikomi Hagi" stone wall. The Stonemasons cut the stones so that there was no gap as much as possible and assembled so that the cut surfaces would be aligned.
It is not as elaborate as the stone of the South American Inca, but it is built exquisitely.
Currently there are only fences above the stone walls, but once there was a sturdy roofed wall long time ago.
The enemy soldier who entered this "枡形 = Masu-gata" was supposed to be attacked by bullets, arrows, stones, etc from three sides including "大手一の門 = Oo-te-ichi-no-mon".
